Week #30: Apr. 14th -17th
As many of you know, we had Good Friday (no school) and Easter Monday (no school), so students will return to school on Tuesday! π✏️
I hope you all continue to have a wonderful time with your loved ones, creating cherished memories over this Easter weekend. π
I look forward to reuniting with my students and hearing about all the fun and special experiences they had with family and friends. ππ°
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I can't wait to see everyone on Tuesday! π·
π BUSINESS FAIR - THANK YOU! π
A huge thank you to all the staff, students, and parents for supporting this year’s Grade 8 Business Fair! π️πΌ✨
The creativity, collaboration, and camaraderie in all the business ventures were truly inspiring! π
Our gym was absolutely buzzing with energy and looked fantastic with all the amazing business ideas on display! π¨π§πͺπ Anyone who attended was in awe! ππ
π°π‘ The Fair was a tremendous success and the funds raised will go a long way in supporting our Grade 8s on their upcoming Toronto trip later this spring! ππ
π Way to go, Nighthawks! π¦ π
As a class family, we loved being part of this experience and are now feeling inspired to dream up our own entrepreneurial ideas! ππ§ ✨
πΈ Below are some photos of the kids seizing and savouring their moment of the Fair with their Kindie Buddy! ππ
π EARTH WEEK INITIATIVES π±π
With Earth Day (April 22nd) just around the corner, our school has been thinking about ways we can come together to care for our planet! π✨
Here are just a few of the eco-friendly initiatives we’re excited to take part in:
πΏ♻️ Join us in making a difference, every small action adds up to a big impact!
-
π₯ͺ Litter-Less Lunch – Pack your lunch using reusable containers, water bottles, and cloth napkins. Let’s say goodbye to single-use plastics! π ♀️π§π
π Boomerang Lunch – What comes to school, goes back home! π This helps us reduce waste and be more aware of what we’re throwing out. ♻️
π‘ L.O.L. – Lights Out Lunches! – We’ll be eating with the lights off to save energy and spark conversation about how we can care for our planet! ππ±
Let’s make Tuesday a bright day for the Earth, even with the lights off! ππ✨
-
On Wednesday, we’re on the move for the planet with:
π Walk, Ride, Roll, or Bike to School! πΆ♂️π΄π²πΉ
Instead of getting dropped off by car, let’s try walking, biking, scootering, or even rolling on your skateboard! Not only is it great for the environment, it’s also a fun way to get your body moving and enjoy the fresh air! ππΏ
Let’s reduce our carbon footprint—one step, pedal, or roll at a time! π£π
-
On Thursday, we’re saying “No thanks!” to plastic with:
π± Plastic Water Bottle Free Day!
Let’s all bring a reusable water bottle to school and help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and oceans. ππ’ Every bottle saved makes a difference!
π Show your love for the planet by sipping smart and staying hydrated the eco-friendly way! π₯€π±π
-
We’re ending Earth Week with two powerful initiatives that show how much we care:
π Battery Collection – Bring in any old household batteries from home to be safely recycled! Keeping batteries out of the garbage helps protect our soil and water. ππ️➡️♻️
π§Ό Community Clean-Up – Let’s roll up our sleeves and give back to our school and neighbourhood by picking up litter and making our shared spaces sparkle! π§€π️πΌ
Together, we’re creating a cleaner, greener future, one small action at a time. πͺπ± Thank you for being Earth heroes all week long! ππ
ππ Earth Day is Coming – Wear Your Blues & Greens! ππ±
In honour of Earth Day on Tuesday, we’re asking all students to wear BLUE & GREEN to show their love for our beautiful planet! πππ
Let’s celebrate the Earth and shine bright in these vibrant colours! π✨
We can't wait to see all the eco-friendly spirit in action! ππΏ
πΏ Thank You for Supporting Earth Week! ππ
Thank you so much for your child’s active participation in our Earth Week initiatives! Your support means the world to us. π
On Friday, April 25th, we’ll be doing a community clean-up to show our love for the environment. π±π
If you're able, please send your child to school with reusable gloves (gardening gloves work great!) and a plastic bag to help with the clean-up efforts. π§€π️
Together, we can make a big impact, thank you for helping make this day even more special! ππ
First, the kindies had the chance to hide eggs for my students to find π₯π and they did such a great job!
Then, it was our turn! My students loved hiding eggs for their little buddies, watching with smiles as the kindies excitedly searched for them.
We enjoyed this special moment together out in the sunshine, filled with laughter, teamwork, and joy. ☀️π
It was a beautiful reminder that simple activities can bring so much happiness and that life is really about these moments of connection and community. ππΈ
We’re so grateful for this experience and can’t wait for more buddy time ahead!
π JUNIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL: π
Congratulations to all the junior boys who made this year's team roster! π I’m very excited and proud to be one of the coaches for this year's team, and I can’t wait for an amazing season filled with growth, teamwork, and fun! πͺπ¦
As many of you can understand, selecting a team is never easy. There were so many talented, dedicated players who showed heart and effort during tryouts. I truly wish I could include everyone, but unfortunately, space is limited.
To those who didn’t make the final roster this time: please know how proud I am of your hard work and courage. π Keep practicing, keep playing, and keep that passion alive, your time will come!
Let’s go, Nighthawks! ππ₯
As a coach, I strive to build a well-balanced team that reflects more than just skill. When creating this year’s roster, I thoughtfully considered a mix of grades, a range of skill levels, and, most importantly, the players’ coachability, attitude (on and off the court), and academic effort.
My goal is to develop young athletes and foster a love for the game, not just to pick “the best.” π
Although the team roster has been finalized, I want to extend an open invitation to all junior boys in grades 4–6 to continue being part of our volleyball community. π
π You’re welcome to join:
✔️ Practices
✔️ After-school clinics
✔️ Friendly scrimmages (such as matchups against the junior girls team!)
This is a great way to continue learning, growing, and most importantly - having fun while playing the game! ππ₯
Let’s keep the volleyball spirit alive all season long! π¦
To Mr. Colquhoun (a.k.a. Coach Allan!)
From all of us — athletes and coaches alike —
THANK YOU for volunteering your time to run your amazing volleyball clinics with our student athletes π
π₯ Your drills? Next-level.
π― Your games? Super fun and full of purpose.
π§ Your knowledge? Endless!
π Your care and mentorship? Truly inspiring.
You brought the perfect mix of fun, focus, and fierce volleyball wisdom to every session, and the boys LOVED IT! ππ₯
You're officially an honourary member of the Junior Boys Volleyball family! ππ
We looked at some of his most famous circular pieces and discussed how he used primary colours (red, yellow, blue) and secondary colours (green, orange, purple), along with contemporary shades, to bring his art to life. π
Inspired by his work, students created their own Kandinsky-style circle art using layers of colour, shape, and imagination. Each piece is vibrant and unique, just like them! π§‘ππ
Feel free to ask your child about their artwork and what colours they chose, it’s a great way to hear about what they’ve learned!
π Thank you, Isla, for showing us what it means to be compassionate, caring, and community-minded. Your actions inspire all of us to do what we can to help others. π✨
Let’s keep those tabs coming, everyone! Every little bit counts! πͺπ
π§♀️π MINDFULNESS MOMENT: Giving Nature a Voice πΏπ¬
Please take a moment to tune into the captivating short film below by Conservation International and be inspired to join a powerful movement to give nature a voice. π±π
The time is now. It’s up to us to:
πΉ PROTECT our planet
πΉ RESTORE what has been lost
πΉ FUNDING to support the well-being of Mother Earth, our greatest and most generous providerππΊ
Let this film be a call to action:
π LISTEN to the voice of nature
πͺ ACT with urgency
π€ UNITE for climate change
Together, we can make a difference. ππ✨
It means that you are special just the way you are! There is no one else in the whole world exactly like you, and that’s something to celebrate! π₯³
You don’t have to try to be like anyone else. Being yourself is the best thing you can be. π
π‘ How can we show this in our daily lives?
π©π« In the Classroom:
Try your best, even if your answers are different from your friends.
Share your own ideas during discussions, you have great thoughts to contribute!
Celebrate your strengths, whether you're great at art, math, reading, or being a kind friend.
π♂️ On the School Yard:
Include others in your games, even if they play differently.
Be kind and confident when making new friends.
Stand up for someone if they’re being left out or treated unfairly.
π At Home:
Help your family in your own special way, maybe you’re great at organizing, reading to a sibling, or making people laugh!
Share your feelings with your family. It's okay to be honest and true to who you are.
π Remember: You are enough. You matter. And being YOU is your superpower!
With love, grace, and gratitude,
Ms. Gill
